Cephalalgiaphobia is a psychiatric condition in which a person has an intense fear of developing a headache. It is further defined as a fear of having a headache, or the fear of the next headache during a pain-free period. This fear may induce patients to use medication even in the absence of pain to prevent migraine headaches, which can then lead to medication overuse. Those who worry about a trigger or just when the next attack may return, may take medications before an attack is even in the prodrome phase (the warning phase that the attack is on the way).
